Fall membership meetings

   We are pleased to announce the following Fall membership meetings so please add them to your calendar today:

SUNDAY, OCTOBER 10, 2021 AT 2 PM

   Our next meeting will be held at the Columbia Museum of Art, first floor auditorium.  Our guest speaker is Dr. Tony Chibbaro; Tony is the author of the book MERCHANT TRADE TOKENS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, a complete history of private coinage issued within our State.  He has a wealth of personal knowledge on this subject and his power point presentation will include silver items from South Carolina.  By the way, Tony’s other books include IMAGES OF AMERICA THE CHARLESTON EXPOSITION and IMAGES OF AMERICA SOUTH CAROLINA’S LOW COUNTRY.

SUNDAY, DECEMBER 5, 2021 AT 2 PM

   Join us at the Chapel / Meeting Room in the Elmwood Cemetery for a fascinating program on the life and times of William Glaze.  William mostly worked in Columbia in various partnerships such as Veal & Glaze, Glaze & Radcliffe and William Glaze & Co.

   Our guest speaker is Dr. Jack Meyer, a foremost authority and historian on the life of William Glaze, especially as it relates to Firearms and swords.  He wrote the book WILLIAM GLAZE AND THE PALMETTO ARMORY.  We encourage everyone to bring personal silver items related to William Glaze and partners, firearms and swords for our group show and tell.  The meeting will also include visiting his gravestone in Elmwood Cemetery.

   As for 2022 don’t forget the SCSS Annual Dinner is scheduled for Friday, February 11, 2022 at the Palmetto Club in Columbia.  We will send out  reminders for each event in the weeks and months to follow so please plan to attend.
